Affiliate Marketing

If you are trying to make money online, one tried and true method is via affiliate marketing, which happens to be the primary method I recommend and focus on the most here at Work At Home Network.

A simple definition of affiliate marketing:

a marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

When I refer to affiliate marketing, I am referring to the classic affiliate marketing where we sell products and service via either in-house affiliate programs or via affiliate networks like ShareASale, CJ, Amazon, LinkShare, etc. and not Multilevel Marketing(MLM) opportunities hiding behind the affiliate marketing label.

Unfortunately, true affiliate marketing has had its name muddied over the last decade+ by MLMs trying to hide their true nature by labeling themselves as affiliate marketing opportunities. While I am definitely not an MLM fan, there are MLMs that are legal and the ones that attempt to portray themselves as something they really aren’t do a disservice to the rest of the industry and hurt the affiliate marketing industry as well. /mini-rant, lol

Okay, with that little diatribe out of the way, here is what we do in affiliate marketing in a nutshell.

We find products and services that we are interested in selling and then create content that will bring customers interested in buying these products and services to our sites. After some preselling, we then hand the customers off to the merchants via affiliate links and when they make a purchase we earn commission from the sale.

Sounds simple, right? Well, it is. However, it’s not always easy to generate enough traffic to earn a decent income. Just about anything worth promoting is going to have significant competition and as the “little guys” on the web, we often have to be a bit more creative and proactive in order to succeed. Fortunately, we can accomplish this because, unlike many of the behemoths we might be competing against, we aren’t wrapped up in a bunch of red tape when we want to make simple changes and/or adjust our strategy.

Here at Work At Home Network, I cover a variety of strategies to drive visitors to your site and convert them into sales.

Among the strategies we discuss here are SEO/SEM, email marketing, video marketing, and social media marketing.

Being efficient in at least a couple different areas helps reduce your risk of loss in your business should something disastrous happen with one of the other strategies you use, i.e., a major search engine rank decline or a social media account getting hacked or shut down.

While the changes and challenges of affiliate marketing have evolved over the years, it’s still one of the best ways to earn legitimate income online. Feel free to follow along and join us on our journey as we continue to grow our affiliate marketing business and share the good and bad experiences we have online.

Best wishes for your success.
