I know there are online courses from some apparently reputable companies for SEO, but I'm not familiar how many(if any) traditional colleges and universities of SEO classes.

and may be in some time we will see that SEO courses have been started in universities..
but SEO is something that person can learn best by himself or by doing lot of research..
so it is just like a hobby,,,

I dropped by this page because I have just had the SEO for my site done. Evidently it is an ongoing process and will take a long time before my site can rise in the rankings.
With more and more people going in for SEO social media promotion is going to become more important. So I am concentrating on that while the technical people are doing SEO.
The field is changing rapidly.

In my opinion the best alternative is abandoning these static websites and start utilising blogging platforms. You don't need courses for SEO in order to make your blog optimized for SE. There are tons of free and tested info online. A good place to start is Problogger.com. Following some basic rules like quality content and posting on a consistent basis can produce very good results.

If you can not do all seo related work by yourself, then you must hire a SEO for your website. I will recommend you to outsource the work.

Well SEO doing a great job... we can optimize our site and generate traffic through search engine optimization easily...!! So i think SEO do good work...!!

If SEO will be taken as a subject than company should provide jobs based on the topic and this will not be a unique work at all now.
